How can writing things down on a piece of paper each day can help you?
Since April this year, I have been keeping a journal of my feelings on a daily basis. I describe how I was feeling that day, write a goal for the next day and write anything I think is of interest for my future self to see. I find it a good way to make sense of everything that is happening inside of my head. You can use anything as a journal, I like to write, others may use their electronic devices. Anything works!
Journaling allows us to:
-Creates mindfulness
-Become present in the moment
-Keeps perspective
-Regulates Emotions
-Identify your strengths and weaknesses
I have found along with journaling that meditating of a night has been a great routine for me. I start at 8pm with my journal writing down how I felt that day, something I enjoyed doing and setting a goal for the next day as well as planning something enjoyable to do the next day. Then after that I schedule what my next day is going to look like so I’m clear on my path for the next day. Then take 15 minutes for myself to meditate and usually listen to some music to finish off my me time for the day.
Some tips for your journaling-
-Set up a dedicated time (I do mine at 8pm every night)
-Be consistent, don’t miss days
-Set up some questions you would like to guide your journal that are relevant to you
-Write a plan/goals for your next day
-Add an affirmation
-Have fun with it! Colour pages, draw, there really is anything you can!
The great thing about journaling is there is no right or wrong way to do it. I think as long as you can go back and reflect on your emotions and see what worked or didn’t work for you that day you can learn so much to help your future self!
